One Down Three to Go: Opening Night at the California Rodeo
Successful Performance Raised Awareness for Breast Cancer
SALINAS, CA- July 17, 2014- The opening performance of the 104th California Rodeo Salinas was a mix of new and old. New this year, the California Rodeo partnered with the Nancy Ausonio Mammography Center at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. Cowboys, cowgirls and rodeo fans donned pink to show their support for Wrangler’s Tough Enough to Wear Pink (TETWP) Campaign and $1 from each ticket sold tonight will be donated to the cause. 8,990 people attended and watched the arena and track action. Attendance was up 159 tickets over the Thursday performance in 2013.
Under the new direction of Henry Dill, the Track was full of highlights as Jynel Gularte from Salinas, California was crowned Miss California Rodeo Salinas 2014 and rodeo fans were treated to a new performance of Cowboy Kenny’s Steel Rodeo Tour as they completed high flying aerial stunts with three motorcycles instead of two. Other highlights included the Riata Ranch Cowboy Girls Trick Riding, the popular freestyle bullfights and fireworks.
