The California Rodeo Salinas’ Cowboy Music & Poetry Gathering will be presented by SSB Construction and Taylor Farms and will take place at the Fox Theater in Salinas on Saturday, March 26th. Doors will open at 5pm, dinner will be served at 6pm and the show will begin at 7pm. Tickets are $75* for dinner and the show or $30* for balcony seats (show only). Part of the proceeds benefit the Monterey County Foundation for Free Libraries and food will be provided by The Grower’s Pub. This year the event will honor the memory of long-time master of ceremonies and cowboy poet Clem Albertoni who passed away in 2021. Albertoni, along with his wife Phylis who also passed away in 2021, were involved with the cowboy poetry event for years. Albertoni was a legendary local poet who helped people celebrate their happiest or saddest day with his heartfelt words.
Entertainers for the show include Dave Stamey and Ed Montana. Stamey has been an award-winning western musician who has been a cowboy, mule packer and dude wrangler in his past lives. He has been voted seven times Entertainer of the Year, seven times Male Performer of the Year and Five times Songwriter of the Year by the Western Music Association and received the Will Rogers Award from the Academy of Western Artists. Stamey was also inducted into the Western Music Hall of Fame in 2016. Montana has been singing at the California Rodeo Salinas since 1980, wrote the official song of the California Rodeo Salinas, “Saddle Up Salinas” and entertains with western music around the country.
