The 2027 Clem Albertoni Cowboy Gathering will be held on Saturday, April 3rd at the Salinas Sports Complex.

Cowboy Poet Dakota Robinson will headline the show along with musician and the man behind the song 'Saddle Up Salinas,' Ed Montana. Local musician Peter Pedrazzi will also perform.

This is the fifth time the California Rodeo Salinas will produce the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in honor of the great man and renowned cowboy poet, Clem Albertoni.

Clem, along with his wife Phylis, were the beating heart behind this event for years, helping us all grow our love for cowboy stories and western music. Clem’s talent for entertaining as a poet was legendary in the Salinas Valley as the resident Master of Ceremonies, as well as at numerous other cowboy poetry events. His skill with words were sought by those celebrating their happiest days or their saddest. He was a man who filled a room with charisma and energy, but with the rare quality of making each person feel as if he were speaking directly to them. His ability to make people laugh, smile, cry and “feel” was a gift from above.

Dakota Robinson

Cowboy Poet Dakota Robinson
Working on ranches from Texas to Kansas, Wyoming to New Mexico, and back again, Dakota Robinson has experienced firsthand the many challenges and rewards the lifestyle of a cowboy can bring. Inspired by the likes of Baxter Black, Waddie Mitchell, Red Steagall, and Ian Tyson, he soon started filling his solitary hours in the saddle with an internal narrative of prose and rhyme—the cattle, horses, and his wife were among the first victims of his early experimentation. Now a full-time farrier back in Texas, Dakota spends his days shoeing horses to support his poetry habit.

Ed Montana

Ed Montana is a celebrated country music singer-songwriter, cowboy, and rodeo emcee whose life and music are deeply woven into the heritage of the California Rodeo Salinas. Though he has spent decades residing in Amarillo, Texas, his profound connection to the Salinas Valley has made him a fixture of California's western tradition.
Ed also wrote and performs the iconic anthem "Saddle Up Salinas," which serves as a cornerstone track during the rodeo's famous "Big Week". His song also inspired the title of the rodeo's official Saddle Up Salinas Podcast.
