CANCER SURVIVORS AND VETERANS AMONG THOSE RECOGNIZED DURING CALIFORNIA RODEO

SALINAS, CA, July 5, 2018- Partnering with local non-profits to generate funds and awareness for their causes is a huge part of the California Rodeo Salinas.

Each of the four 2018 rodeo performances will have a theme.

Thursday, July 19th is Rabobank’s Tough Enough to Wear Pink (TETWP) night. Wrangler founded the TETWP campaign to help rodeos raise funds and support in their local communities. Patrons are encouraged to wear pink and $1 from each ticket sold that night will benefit the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. Cancer survivors will release doves during the opening ceremony.

Friday, July 20th is Wells Fargo’s Fight Hunger Night. A produce mascot race takes place on the track to benefit Ag Against Hunger, a non-profit that harvests leftover produce from fields to donate to food banks. The California Rodeo Salinas might be the only rodeo with giant vegetables racing down the track. Local companies with racing mascots are: Bengard Ranches, Church Brothers Farms, Dole Fresh Vegetables, Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Ocean Mist Farms, Pacific International Marketing, Tanimura & Antle, Taylor Farms, The Nunes Company and Sakata Seed America.

Saturday, July 22nd is Salute to Military Day. All active Military and Veterans receive free admission with current identification. Wear red, white and blue to support the Military and the Wrangler National Patriot Program (WNPP). The WNPP was created to provide funding and support for America’s wounded and fallen soldiers and their families. The Monterey Bay Veterans, Inc. is the local beneficiary for the WNPP. Monterey Bay Veterans takes Veterans fishing and diving on their specially outfitted boats. To kick off this daily celebration, a parachute jumper will descend into the arena with a giant American Flag during the National Anthem.

Sunday, July 23rd is the Pendleton Whisky Day of Champions and also Man Up Crusade day. The winners of each event will receive their trophy belt buckles and the local YWCA of Monterey County will man a booth to raise awareness for local resources to assist victims of domestic violence. The Man Up Crusade shows support for victims and advocates to honor those who have lost their lives at the hands of someone they once loved. Fans are encouraged to wear purple to support the cause. Money raised by selling tickets to win a Man Up Crusade belt buckle will be donated to the YWCA of Monterey County; they are the only sole-source provider of domestic violence services in Monterey County.
