California Rodeo Salinas Awards Five Scholarships

Local Students Continue their Education
06/16/2016

The California Rodeo Association strongly believes in supporting our youth and education. Each year the California Rodeo Salinas offers five to ten scholarships ranging from $500 to $1000 each for students graduating from Salinas Valley High Schools who are attending Hartnell Junior College or transferring from Hartnell to a University. Students of Salinas Valley high schools, who are seniors in the fall, may also apply if they will be attending Hartnell the following fall. Students must be 17 years of age or older and special consideration is given to children or grandchildren of Rodeo Committee Members in good standing. The scholarship is run through the Hartnell College Foundation and more information can be found at http://www.hartnell.edu/2016-2017-hartnell-scholarships-program.

This year the five recipients are Francisco Amaro, Angela Serrano, Annabel Murillo, Alejandro Gomez and Adela Zamora. Francisco Amaro is a Soledad High School graduate transferring from Hartnell to California State University, Sacramento to study Administration of Justice. Angela Serrano is an Everett Alvarez High School graduate transferring from Hartnell College to University California, Davis to major in Psychology. Annabel Murillo is a North Salinas High School graduate studying Psychology at Hartnell College. Alejandro Gomez is an Alisal High School graduate transferring from Hartnell College to University California, Berkeley to study Engineering. Adela Zamora is an Alvarez High School graduate studying Engineering at Hartnell College.

Four of the five recipients, Adela Zamora, Annabel Murillo, Angela Serrano and Francisco Amaro (pictured left to right) attended the California Rodeo’s June 16th Director’s Meeting to be recognized. Their stories were inspiring and the Rodeo is proud to assist in making their educational endeavors a reality.
