Almost all of us have been touched by cancer in some way, so we've decided to make a difference by walking and raising money in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life event. The California Rodeo Salinas has been participating in Relay for Life since 2004. The team was started by the late Lee Brooks who was the Director of Parking for many years for the California Rodeo Association. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2004 and fought long and hard until his passing in March of 2007. Lee used to have 10 baseball caps embroidered each year with "Rope in a Cure" and would auction them off to raise money to fight cancer. Lupe Covarrubias-Martinez is our Team Captain for 2020.
From 2004 to 2019, the California Rodeo's Relay for Life Team has raised over $65,000 for the American Cancer Society.
