The August Director’s Meeting of the California Rodeo Salinas is always one of our Board’s favorites. The meeting is dedicated to presenting local non-profits with funds that most of them earned by working during one of the annual events that the California Rodeo Inc. produces at the Salinas Sports Complex. Those events include the Monster Jam each May, Rodeo Kick Off Concert, Cowboy Music & Poetry Gathering, the Professional Bull Riding in July, the California Rodeo Salinas and the Central Coast Motorsports Spectacular. The non-profit groups assist with tasks that come along with hosting large events such as parking cars, selling food, transporting attendees and more.
The grand total of donations so far this year is $410,887.14. Some of the groups who were present to receive their checks on Thursday, August 17th were the YWCA of Monterey County, Gil Basketball Academy, North Salinas High School Football, Alvarez High School Basketball, National Little League, Hartnell Little League, Kinship Center Horse Camp, Yosal, Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System Foundation, Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries and Boys Scouts #232. The final donation number includes payments to groups that work during events, ticket donations to non-profit groups for fundraising activities, discounted facility rentals, tip monies collected and more.
The Bulls of Summer event coming up on Saturday, August 26th is another Professional Bull Riders event that will give a few more non-profits the opportunity to raise more money and so will the Central Coast Motorsports Spectacular on Sunday, October 15th.
