SALINAS, CA - September 25, 2007 - In any given year, the California Rodeo Salinas and other activities that are held at the Salinas Sports Complex generate much-needed funds for local non-profit groups and schools in the Salinas area. The Rodeo and other activities provide vending opportunities as well as complimentary tickets to several local agencies. 2007 was a great year for these organizations; over $240,000 was given back to the community. The list of groups that benefited from Rodeo and Complex related activities is extensive: Salinas Jaycees, Palma Athletics, Steinbeck Rotary, American Red Cross, North Salinas High School Boosters, Steinbeck Youth Football, Salinas High Math Club, Notre Dame Girls Basketball, Spring 4-H, Alvarez High School Football, the Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries, the Kinship Center, Native Daughters of the Golden West, Salinas Elks, Boy Scout Troop #232, Northminster Presbyterian Preschool/Kinderprep, Monterey County Sheriff's Post 211, Madonna del Sasso Church and the Breast Cancer Action Group of the Monterey Peninsula to name a few.
The Breast Cancer Action Group of the Monterey Peninsula (BCAGMP) was the beneficiary of donations given through Wrangler's Tough Enough to Wear Pink Promotion that the California Rodeo Salinas supported for the second consecutive year. This program has been successful across the United States as rodeos can activate on a local level to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. In 2007, the Rodeo Association raised money for the BCAGMP through ticket sales at Thursday night's performance, the Rockin' Rodeo Ball and Gala held in early July and with sales of TETWP bracelets during the Rodeo; these efforts amounted to over $8000 in donations. Fans and competitors were also encouraged to wear pink on Thursday night in support of this program. Tough Enough to Wear Pink night will be on Thursday July 17th, 2008 during the 98th Annual California Rodeo Salinas.
Other organizations raised money through various vending activities such as selling food, souvenir program sales, parking cars and more. Their help is sincerely appreciated by the Rodeo Association and it's a great partnership as all involved parties benefit from the events held at the Salinas Sports Complex.
The dates for the 2008 California Rodeo Salinas are July 17-20, 2008.
