2010 MCRS Contest Opens February 14th

SALINAS, February 10, 2010 - As the California Rodeo Salinas prepares to celebrate 100 Years of Tradition July 15-18th, one lucky and talented young woman is preparing for the contest that could allow her to be the ambassador for this great event. The California Rodeo Salinas will start accepting applications for the 2010 Miss California Rodeo Salinas contest on Sunday February 14th. Each July, several young women converge upon Salinas to participate in the challenge of the Miss California Rodeo Salinas Contest. Contest Chairman Laurie LaVelle and California Rodeo President Craig Andrus invite qualified young ladies to join us in the celebration of our California Rodeo Salinas 100th Anniversary and the Miss California Rodeo Salinas Contest.
The contest winner will receive a $2,500 cash scholarship to be used at the college of her choice, a gold and silver trophy belt buckle, the use of a two-horse trailer for one year, along with many other lovely gifts and the honor of wearing the Miss California Rodeo Salinas gold and silver tiara.
The 2010 Miss California Rodeo Salinas contest begins on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Contestants are judged on horsemanship, personality, appearance, and scholarship. The reigning 2009 Miss California Rodeo Salinas, Brittany Slaton, will pass on her title to the 2010 winner during the grand entry of the 100th California Rodeo Salinas on Thursday July 15, 2010. Miss California Rodeo Salinas will spend the following year attending rodeos, parades and events throughout California, promoting the California Rodeo Salinas and the sport of rodeo.

Competition is open to young women 18 - 21 years of age. Contestants must be at least 18 years old by July 1, 2010 without having turned 22 by July 31, 2010. Deadline for entry is May 7, 2010. Full contest details and applications can be found at

In order to be eligible, contestants must be sponsored by either a recognized horsemen's organization or another recognized community organization (not commercial). There is no entry fee for the privilege of competing. Contestants will be required to sign a liability waiver and acceptance of responsibility form.
The California Rodeo Salinas will celebrate 100 Years of Tradition July 15-18, 2010. The California Rodeo Association is a non-profit organization that strives to preserve and promote the traditions of the California Rodeo Salinas and the West. We support the community and other non-profit organizations through the staging of the annual California Rodeo Salinas and other year round operations of the Salinas Sports Complex. Through donation of our facility, vending and fundraising opportunities during Rodeo and other events, the California Rodeo Association returns over $200,000 annually to local non-profits.
