California Rodeo Salinas Nominated for Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year

Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association prepares to give out year-end honors

SALINAS, CA - September 14, 2009 - Nominees were announced yesterday for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Year End Awards in categories such as Rodeo Secretary, Announcer, Bullfighter and Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year. The California Rodeo Salinas joins elite rodeos such as the Pendleton Round Up, Reno Rodeo and Cheyenne Frontier Days in the Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year category. Though Salinas has been nominated for this honor in the past, the Rodeo has never received the award. The winner in each category will be announced on Dec. 2nd in Las Vegas at the annual awards ceremony at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa.

The complete list of nominees is below and includes the California Rodeo Salinas' own announcer Wayne Brooks, who was voted Announcer of the Year in 2005, our Secretary Haley Schneeburger, who won the honor in 2008 and has been here at Salinas for the past three years, former Freestyle Bullfighter Dusty Tuckness who is nominated for Bullfighter of the Year, Growney Bros. Rodeo Co. who brings some stock to Salinas is nominated for Stock Contracting Firm of the Year and John Payne, the One Arm Bandit, who is nominated for Dress Act of the Year and will perform on the track during the 2010 Centennial California Rodeo Salinas.
