California Rodeo Salinas Awards Scholarships

SALINAS, CA – July 2, 2009; Each year for the past 25 years, the California Rodeo Salinas has offered up to ten scholarships for students graduating from Salinas Valley High Schools who are currently attending or who are transferring from Hartnell Junior College to a University. Students must be 17 years of age or older with 4 scholarships reserved for children or grandchildren of California Rodeo Committee Members in good standing. The California Rodeo Salinas Committee believes in promoting education and helping the youth in the area to become successful. The following students each received $1000 scholarships from the California Rodeo Salinas: Leidy Hernandez, Cristian Silva, Thomas Brown, Cesar Alvarez, and Jessica Inman.

Leidy Hernandez has just finished her education at Hartnell Junior College and will be transferring to University of Santa Cruz this fall where she will work towards a bachelor’s in psychology. 

Cristian Silva has just completed her time at Hartnell Junior College and has transferred to University of California Los Angeles and will begin this fall.  She plans to graduate with a double major in English and Art History. 

Thomas Brown is currently attending Hartnell Junior College and working towards an Associates of Science degree in both Chemistry and Physics.  He is planning on transferring to a UC in the fall of 2010 to earn a degree in Biophysics.

Cesar Alvarez has been working on a business degree at Hartnell Junior college; after graduating from Hartnell, he plans to transfer to UC Riverside, Sacramento State, San Diego State or Chico State.

Jessica Inman is currently a student in the Hartnell Junior College nursing program, and plans to transfer to Sacramento State University in August to earn her bachelor degree in Nursing.  


The Rodeo Association congratulates these students and encourages students to apply for the 2010 scholarships.

The deadline for 2010 scholarships is still to be announced; applications are available online at the Hartnell Junior College Website and will also be available at the Rodeo Office at 1034 N. Main Street in Salinas.

The California Rodeo Association is a non-profit organization that strives to preserve and promote the traditions of the California Rodeo Salinas and the West. We support the community and other non-profit organizations through the staging of the annual California Rodeo Salinas and other year round operations of the Salinas Sports Complex. Through donation of our facility, vending and fundraising opportunities during Rodeo and other events, the California Rodeo Association returns over $240,000 annually to local non-profits.
