The Friday night performance of the California Rodeo Salinas on July 19th will feature classic Rodeo action in the arena and annual events on the track, but one event on the track will really stand out. The track will be full of giant mascots who will race toward the finish line to support Ag Against Hunger. Companies that are signed up to participate in 2013 are listed below under Sponsors.
Eleven local companies participated in the race on the Rodeo’s 2nd Annual Fight Hunger Night. Each company paid an entry fee of $1000 that was donated to Ag Against Hunger. The entry fees along with a few other donations resulted in the California Rodeo Salinas donating a total sum of $12,875 to Ag Against Hunger in 2012.
Ag Against Hunger (AAH) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to alleviate hunger by creating a connection between the agricultural community and food assistance programs. Since 1990, the generous donations of surplus produce from our local growers and shippers have helped Ag Against Hunger bring 190 million pounds of produce to tens of millions of hungry children, adults and seniors.
The Rodeo and Ag Against Hunger came up with the idea of racing mascots in 2011 and the program has been a success ever since. Without the support of local sponsors, this race and monetary donation would not be possible. In the past two years, over $25,000 has been raised for Ag Against Hunger.
