What is Tough Enough to Wear Pink? (TETWP)
This year-long, western-industry-wide fundraiser to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research kicked off at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December of 2004. While pink is not typically associated with rough and rugged cowboys and cowgirls, this program has been a phenomenal success. In 2006, Rodeos across the US generated over $1 million dollars collectively and over $2.5 million in 2007, $5 million in 2008 and another $2.2 million in 2009 for this worthy cause. The money earned impacts local organizations of the rodeo's choice; since 2006, the California Rodeo Salinas Association donated over $40,000 to the Breast Cancer Assistance Group of the Monterey Peninsula.
IN 2011, the California Rodeo is ramping this promotion up by working with Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. The funds generated by our joint efforts will be donated to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System. Plans to raise money include the $1 from each ticket being donated from the Thursday July 21 Rodeo Performance (make sure you wear your pink shirt!) and also working with new sponsor Swenson & Silacci flowers to send survivors bouquets in June with a portion of proceeds benefitting the TETWP campaign.
