What is Tough Enough to Wear Pink? (TETWP)
This year-long, western-industry-wide fundraiser to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research kicked off at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December of 2004. While pink is not typically associated with rough and rugged cowboys and cowgirls, this program has been a phenomenal success. In 2006, Rodeos across the US generated over $1 million dollars collectively and over $2.5 million in 2007, $5 million in 2008 and another $2.2 million in 2009 for this worthy cause. The money earned impacts local organizations of the rodeo's choice. In 2011 the California Rodeo was proud to donate over $3900 to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System.
IN 2012, the California Rodeo is ramping this promotion up by working with Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. The funds generated by our joint efforts will be donated to the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System. Plans to raise money include the $1 from each ticket being donated from the Thursday July 19th Rodeo Performance (make sure you wear your pink shirt!) Plus, we've teamed up with sponsor Swenson & Silacci Flowers to send beautiful pink bouquets to cancer survivors during the month of June with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the TETWP campaign. Rabobank, a loyal Rodeo sponsor, is the Thursday night presenting sponsor.
