INFO ABOUT THE 2012 WRANGLER NATIONAL PATRIOT PROGRAM AT THE CALIFORNIA RODEO SALINAS
The Wrangler National Patriot Program was created to provide funding for America's wounded and fallen soldiers and their families. The Rodeo's local charity of choice to benefit from this program is Monterey Bay Veteran's, Inc. (MBV).
MBV is a charity that started here on the Peninsula and has grown to become nationally recognized. They are a sports rehabilitation center that focuses on marine activities. Wounded warriors may make their very first trip out of a hospital to one of MBV's vessels-either the Freedom or Independence-for a day of fishing. Trips like that help them to realize that they are not helpless and that they can recover and live fulfilling lives after giving so much of themselves for this country and for us. The organization uses 88% of funds they are given or earn to directly impact these soldiers. They don't just do this in Monterey Bay either-if funds are available, the MBV head out on tours along the coast of California, either north or south, and make stops at places with Veteran's Hospitals and take those wounded warriors out to sea. More About Monterey Bay Veterans Inc.
'Monterey Bay Veterans Inc., "Sports Rehabilitation Center" is a non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide Disabled Veterans and others with physical challenges, a program of recreational rehabilitation therapy with special emphasis on marine activities.
Our services include sports fishing, scuba diving, boating safety courses, scattering of ashes (with honors), sightseeing, and marine environmental education.
Monterey Bay Veterans, Inc. hosts two sports fishing events annually. The Wheelchair Salmon Fishing Derby and the Wheelchair Rock Cod Fishing Derby brings fun and excitement to our deserved Veterans. We have been hosting these major events for over 20 years! Participants come from all areas of the state and country. They come to the Monterey Peninsula and are able to go out for a day of fishing and fun, and afterward participate in a ceremony and dinner that recognizes those who participated, as well as those who made the event possible.
Another service we provide is "the physically challenged assistance program" which is designed to make outdoor recreational venues wheelchair accessible. Venues where we provide this service are Mazda Laguna Seca raceway, Monterey Jazz Festival, The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, California International Air Show, Spirit West Coast, The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and First Tee Open Golf Tournament. Our program provides transportation in and around these venues, as well as to parking lots. Monterey Bay Veterans, Inc. provides special wheelchair accessible carts, shuttles, and vans that are capable of transporting wheelchairs and several passengers. In addition, we customize and provide assistance to the physically challenged for outdoor recreational venues.' www.mbv.org
